Click here to add text.I have loved art as far back as I can remember! I grew up enjoying drawing, coloring and making figures out of clay, but I had never tried sculpting. My mother taught me how to sew, knit and crochet. When I was in high school, they had a contest to choose a flag for the school and my drawing was the winner. Around 1986 I found out about cold porcelain (Porcelana Fria). Cold porcelain is an air dry homemade clay based on corn starch and white glue and its finished looks much like polymer clay. That absolutely got my attention. I purchased some magazines and books to learn all about it and got started. I started doing easy things like miniature foods and cartoon animals.
It wasn’t my plan to sell crafts at first. I was just enjoying playing with clay. Soon I was doing baby shower gifts, flowers, bijouterie, cartoon figures etc…
During college, I started selling articulated fridge magnets to help on our home budget.
In 2000, I taught cold porcelain classes in a handcraft school. Since then, I have sold many kinds of hand sculpted collectibles and miniature animals.
In 2001, my husband’s work brought us to the USA. I left all my crafts behind and spent time trying to adapt with my new life. It is not everyday that you stop speaking your native language (Portuguese) and start learning another language. One day in 2004, I was surfing on Ebay, and saw these miniature polymer babies that I fell in love with. I wanted to learn how to sculpt babies no matter what. I had no idea what OOAK mini baby was so I began to research the subject of dolls through magazines and some books. In the summer of 2005, I purchased my first bar of Prosculpt clay, a few tools and had my first attempt sculpting a One of a Kind mini baby.
Since then, sculpting babies has been my true passion. To me, there is nothing like taking a block of clay and watching it transform into a baby. I truly believe that my work has been improving since my first day of sculpting.
Since I started using Ebay, I have had more than 300 successful adoptions. I have already sent my babies to almost every single state in the US and to several nations worldwide.
I have no plans to slow down, I plan to continue sculpting for many years to come and I hope to keep improving as an artist. It is a learning process, and I feel that I am not even close to reaching my full potential. I just love to be able to work from home doing something that I love so much and knowing that my work is loved and cherish by so many people.
